The New Mexico State Fair is off to a great start! As I made my way through the Purple Gate to enter the Fair, I was greeted by the sound of steel drums being played by two of the members of Salsa Steel, a steel drum band out of Silver City, New Mexico.
The band has four members, but they split into teams of two to cover different areas of the fair. Bill and Stephanie were at the Purple Gate.

An older popular British Isles tune first published around 1800 but likely older, performed here by Renaissance Minstrels of Goode Company, Abby Green Soprano and Irish Bouzouki, Bill Harris marimba, Bobby Triviso Tabour drum, and music director Stephanie Gudeman on alto vocals. We had too much fun playing this old tune, as we often do! We hope this makes you smile.

Goode Company is a costumed Renaissance minstrel group, an instrumental group or a bit of both. Minstrels play and sing songs from the Medieval period through the 17th century. The instrumental group plays music from the 14th-16th centuries on authentic historic reproductions of 15th-16th century instruments.

Minstrels play and sing songs from the Medieval through the 17th century in several languages. This unique and beautiful song is sung in an ancient Sephardic language.
Goode Company - Scemc
Costumed Renaissance 'loud band' playing authentic 16th century music on period instruments for dancers. This piece would be considered 'Top 40 dance music' back in the Renaissance period. Instruments performed here are soprano and alto shawm, tenor and bass sackbut and the rope tension side drum.
